Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
(CTS) is now the number one most common reported medical problem in the workplace. Symptoms include:

  • Pain and swelling of the hand
  • Weakness, or clumsiness in hand function
  • Altered sensations such as tingling or numbness of the thumb, index finger, and middle and radial  part of the ring finger, day or night
"My doctor said I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and I have to have surgery!"

It is important to realize that  there are effective, non-surgical treatments for carpal tunnel syndrome.

Advanced cases of CTS may require surgical treatment. Unfortunately, while surgery often relieves symptoms, in many cases the patient does not regain full hand function!

Your chiropractor has several options for treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. In addition to promoting the health of the affected area by restoring proper spinal alignment, he can directly adjust the bones of the wrist. This frees up the bones within the carpal tunnel to allow relief from symptoms and healing to begin.

Also, Bly Chiropractic is the only clinic in the area offering Carpal Tunnel Distraction treatment using the ParaTech CTD-Mark 1 pneumatic traction device. This apparatus exerts a controlled extension of the arm and wrist, relaxing the muscles and ligaments that are causing compression of the carpal tunnel ligament upon the median nerve. The carpal bones now open to allow more room in the carpal tunnel as a result of the carpal ligament relaxation.

Clinical experience and testing has shown the Chiropractic approach to CTS to have an outstanding success rate without surgery. The Bly Clinic can also speed and assist recovery in CTS where surgery has been performed.

Who is at risk for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?Workers at risk for CTS perform repetitive tasks, like computer operators, typists, stenographers, garment workers, bakers, masseurs, butchers, assembly line workers, etc. Sports activities which generate high torque/twisting forces on the wrist are also a risk factor.

If you have any of the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, call the Bly Clinic right away for a free examination!
